One of the many conversations I have had with close friends and family, because there I can speak my mind freely, revolves around patriarchy. One of the major reasons I signed on was that I wanted to see what Satya would bring to the film. At the end of the film, Bulbbul calls out Satya as one of the patriarchs in the film… she tells him, ‘Tum Sab Ek Jaise Ho’. That’s the conversation that’s been happening around me… was Satya patriarchal? What did he really do wrong?
Most men around me identify themselves as being like Satya… he’s someone who doesn’t really do things wrong, but still becomes an oppressor/ patriarchal because of the conditioning that most men have. I kept debating with Anvita(Someone i truly vale and respect) about it… Honestly, I kept thinking that Satya was doing everything right, until Anvita said that, ‘Avinash, maybe you need to acknowledge that you are a closet patriarch yourself’. It’s not very easy to accept that… I am still fighting it but I am willing to understand that I may be wrong about it. I am happy that at least people around me are having a conversation about it. When that conversation becomes a public discourse, that’s when things will get interesting and a change will happen. I truly feel that I am a feminist coz i believe in equal opportunities for everyone and the day I can acknowledge that I am actually a closet patriarch is when that shift will happen, at least within me.

It is the only emotion that we have been made to truly desire.
All the other emotions are like the unwanted child,
You have them, but they never gain your indulgence…
Since childhood, one is made to embark on a journey in ‘The Pursuit of Happiness’
This imaginary , illusionary state of being where everything feels right.
One wonders what makes us have this step-treatment with the other emotions?
Why do we not aim to pursue a wholesome life?
Why have we not given equal value and worth to all emotions?
हे पुरुषश्रेष्ठ (अर्जुन)! जो पुरुष सुख तथा दुख में समभाव(equanimity) रहता है, वह निश्चित रूप से मुक्ति के योग्य है
This idea has been a part of our culture since the time of Gita, and yet, somewhere in our evolution and the idea of growth we have been exploited with the idea of the ‘Pursuit of Happiness’.

So I’ve been wanting to do this for quite some time now.. the whole lock down experience has been absolutely unique for all of us.
We have all felt together in this and yet had our own revealations…
Personally for me I have had a rendezvous with my own existential crisis,My fears.
Have questioned everything including Life as it is..
Over these past months i tried to actually observe my thoughts and decided to keep them as reminders in form of quotes…it may or may not resonate with you…These thoughts are not necessarily a comment on various happenings,events, ideologies that have come forward but more like an instruction or message to self.
I shall be sharing those few thoughts through the T-shirts that I got designed with the help of my Super Talented Sister @swatitiwary and @titiksha_rout
We all are aware especially with the recent events that there is a lot going on in human decision making (not only as an individual but more so in a group) than the basic idea that INFORMATION DRIVES BEHAVIOUR
We make decisions not only out of the information but coz of the Rational/Irrational subconscious perceptions created on us by the society or influencers
We all are smart enough to see Propaganda around us…Propaganda post the Second World War wore the Façade of PR and Counseling to influence the consumers.
It has been the biggest flagbearer of Consumerism which has driven our Capitalistic society…
Celebrities and Influencers have been the tool used by Propagandist since the invention of the word…We all are aware of various recent events which are clear examples of the aforementioned.
The idea is to basically Reject the outer influence…find willingness to let go of all the conditioning and find a way to look at things the way it is nd not through the tinted glasses that are put on us through Propaganda!
I hope and wish that these thoughts and words speak more than how you may perceive them on the face of it.

#Bulbbul is a film i am extremely proud of…
In my personal opinion its a genre-bending, genre-flexible (Whatever one may choose to call it) unique film which is an amalgamation of Fantasy,Period, Family Drama,Thriller and a hint of Horror. Of what i know, it is a visually stunning tale of #Bulbbul from her innocence to her Consciousness of her inner strength.
A story of Love,friendship and Betrayal.
Here’s Hoping that I and @tripti_dimri will be remembered as #Bulbbul and #Satya too 24th June Onwards.
