Thalapathy Vijay starrer Mersal is all set to release for the upcoming Diwali. The most expected movie of the star ran into problems when A.Rajendran, a producer from the Tamil Film Industry under the banner AR Film Factory claimed that he had registered a similar title for his own movie. He registered a case against Thenandal Films asking for a stay on the movie’s production.
Hema Rukmini who produces Mersal under her Thenandal Films banner today announced that the case has been nullified and Mersal is now hassle free for a grand Diwali release. Justice Anitha Sumanth vacated the interim order paving way for further progress of the movie. The makers also announced that they are targeting Diwali holidays as the release time for their movie. Mersal has Thalapathy Vijay playing three different lead roles while Nithya Menen, Kajal Agarwal and Samantha form the team of three leading ladies in the movie.
When questioned about the ongoing issue of double taxation that prevents any new movies from hitting the screens until a resolution is made by the state government, the producers reassured that Mersal will be a grand Diwali release. It is to be noted that apart from the producer’s council strike on releasing new movies, Multiplex Association of India too have announced that they will not be open to the public until the problem is dealt with.
The strike for not to release new movies was called on to oppose the double taxation that is currently in practice for the state of TamilNadu. The state government on 29th of September announced 10 % of Local Body Entertainment Tax will be levied on every ticket from theatres in addition to the already existing 28% GST levied by the central government.
