Kindness begets kindness.
I am a firm believer in supporting art programs, artists and those with any kind of passion. Within our already small community as gay individuals, as well as our current political climate, it is BEST for all parties to support what is good for the community at large.
Often our judgments get clouded by who said what and who did what and who is the Regina George of the group, or the most like Karen Walker, that we forget that our freedoms as LGBTQIA people are truly still quite young.
Within my own lifetime I have seen Seattle’s gay pride parade go from small festival on Capitol Hill to shutting down the Seattle Science Center, drag queens able to make a realistic living off of their craft, to Marriage Equality, something that seemed unfathomable even 10 years prior.
It seems common sense for our community to band together in all battles, wars, sacrifices, but more importantly in our successes, our joys and our truths. Queer Bar has opened to offer another place for our community as a whole to feel welcome and embraced. Our community doesn’t have enough safe spaces to go, so any new business that wants to outwardly support its community is A in my book. That is not to demean any establishment in our community. I frequent them all and all are valid and serve their purpose.
I am excited that Queer Bar has gender neutral bathrooms because it is important for our trans brothers and sisters to feel that such a silly issue of using the restroom is a non issue.
I am excited that Queer Hall will be beginning because it is important that we bring our politicians, activists and other law making individuals into OUR HOME and ask viable questions regarding what they will do FOR US to keep our rights safe.
