The most expected and highly debated movie of the year ‘Mersal’ has finally managed to reach the prestigious 200 Crore mark at the box office. Directed by Atlee, the movie had Thalapathy Vijay playing three characters in the movie. Mersal was also the 100th movie from the production house Thenandal Films and also had music by A.R.Rahman. The most expected movie was said to be made on a budget of more than 100 crores.
The makers have now come forward to announce the total collection of the movie at the box office after a grand run of 14 days. Opening to mixed response the movie faced severe criticism from one of the leading political party in the country as some of the dialogues in the movie directly targeted the ruling party. Releasing as a festival release the movie was declared a blockbuster within days after its release.

Minting more than 40 Crores on its opening day itself, the movie has went on to gross more than 100 Crore in three days. Also rumours surfaced the internet that claimed that the producers have given false stats in terms of box office collections. Crossing the 200 Crore mark in its 12th day, it is only the 4th Tamil film to achieve this feat, others being Kabali, Endhiran and Vishwaroopam.
