Robbie Turner Instagram – Last night was a true test. My beautiful grandfather passed away seconds before my show started. Rather than get emotional after the phone call that he had indeed passed, I compartmentalized and let the show go on.
I continued to socialize, allow people to buy me drinks, take pictures with me, etc. because that is what my job requires. However, once the evening was through, a surge of emotion swept over me and as I collapsed in my dressing room, I was grateful to have the arms of Stacey Starstruck & Abbey Roads to fall into.
I wasn’t prepared for my grandfather’s death. I also wasn’t prepared to have to fulfill my duties as a public persona within MOMENTS of hearing the news. I am not complaining, but it was difficult to receive the news and pretend to smile genuinely all evening.
Thank you to Queer Bar for allowing my backstage tears and to the cast I work with, thank you for always being kind to me. Tonight was difficult and I’m grateful I have some time to decompress.
My grandfather was a good man and actually introduced me to the world of being an entertainer. For that I am grateful, but moreover, I am immensely grateful that he was always nice to me, even when it was blatantly obvious that I was more than a straight little boy. He, & Grandma Jenny, always had my back.
