Donisha Rita Claire Prendergast Instagram – Reminder to self: ‘We are our ancestor’s wildest dreams come true.’ There is a story of a Princess from Ghana 🇬🇭 who decided to board a Colonizer’s ship by will during the times of slavery, to sail to Jamaica 🇯🇲 to set her people free. Her name is Nanny of the Maroons. I think of her most often when I’m faced with some kind of adversity. She answered the call to become something greater than history was willing to write. The most logical choice was not for her to stand aside and look, but to board that merchant ship with the bottomless pit and fight. One day, our lives too will become a story, a figment of someone’s imagination. But today, I will continue to Right my Story in small and big ways. We are not limited to pen and paper. We exist now, and we can write the future. Our ancestors have fought many battles to afford us many mercies within these times. Let us not be negligent to the capacity of our collective abilities.
