Daniel Gillies Instagram – ok… so i’m kind of late to the party on this. but there’s an extraordinary podcast about the cult of ‘heaven’s gate’ led by marshall herf applewhite and bonnie nettles. the guy who hosts it (glynn washington) is a little distracting at times as he vocally attempts to sell you the information, which invariably sells itself… but then you learn about glynn’s own history and why he’s a fascinating candidate to walk you through this haunting narrative. i think what’s most disturbing, is that it isn’t too far removed from many major religious cults. it’s so easy to dismissively say that we’d never be seduced by anything so radical/strange. truth is, there’s a hole in each of us. we try to either satiate or deny that thing. it’s a story of how vulnerable we all are; and given the correct ingredients, how none of us are impervious. to many, something like the promise this particular brand of lunacy held — was precisely the thing to fill the void. check it out at www.heavensgate.show fascinating.
