As I sit here and attempt to process the past 3 years, 3 seasons, 55 episodes, 400 days of work (don’t trust my math here), I can’t help but become inundated with emotions and memories. Our time over the past 3 Seasons can be considered an odyssey but now looking back it feels more like a dream, an epic story that happened in my mind where the protagonist, this skinny, wide eyed, college graduate went from being this scrappy kid from Brooklyn to a confident, self assured, Daylighter. All of us, the cast, the crew, production, the writers room and all of you fans should be SO proud of everything we’ve done together. We have created a wonderful world full of fantastical beauty and love! We fought together, we cried together and most importantly, we loved together. My hopes are very high looking ahead at the legacy of Shadowhunters. I am very proud to have been your Simon Lewis. I am very proud to be a part of our giant family. I am very proud of each of you who continue to fight for love and make this world a better place. Keep questioning. Keep learning. Keep being curious. Keep being positive forces for change in your communities around the world! I love you all! This picture was taken May 7th of 2013, a day many know as Victory over Europe Day But to me it is known as VT Day or Victory over Tumor Day. April 30, 2013 I call D-Day (Diagnosis Day) a day that, in my life, will forever be known as the day everything changed. I haven’t talked about it too much on social media these past few years because it is hard to talk about such a personal experience. When asked to speak about it or write about it, even when trying to just understand it myself, words seem to escape me. I was diagnosed with Testicular Cancer in April of 2013. I was 20 years old and at the time, I swore that I was invincible. This diagnosis rocked my world and made me feel alone and scared. I had no knowledge of TC. My only understanding of cancer was not one with a very positive outcome. I knew that the battle was set to be a hard one. I questioned whether or not I was strong enough to handle this burden that life had given me. Could I win this fight alone? I was never alone. The minute I was diagnosed I realized how important my support system really was, how often I had in fact taken it for granted. When you get diagnosed with cancer, it’s not just you that gets diagnosed. Everyone around you who loves you gets diagnosed as well. You become a team, fighting a battle together. You also become part of a bigger club, a club the size of which is impossible to grasp until your a part of it. I write this today to tell each of you that you are part of this club and just spreading the word is good enough. With enough education and understanding we can eradicate this disease and help ensure that it becomes a thing of the past. I am lucky to have the opportunity to not only share my story but to also let other men know that they are not alone in this fight! Together we are strong enough and together we can win. Students Demand Action for Gun Sense in America is a non-partisan, grassroots, student movement demanding common-sense solutions to the gun violence that endangers students, schools, and our communities. On Saturday March 24th, Students Demand Action of SoFl will have student representation at the national march in Washington, D.C. and at the local marches in Ft. Lauderdale and Miami Beach !
