She soon left with her young son to make dresses for southern society women. By 21 had her own dress shop. By 31 had $20,000 saved and moved to NY. In 1947 went to Paris Fashion week. Upon her return she got a job at Saks 5th ave. Her gowns sold at Neiman Marcus, Henri Bendel and Saks. She was making up to $300,000 a year in 1950. 1953 she made Jacqueline Kennedy”s wedding gown.
