you could be responsible for, Mr. Trump
Not the number of voters
but the number of people you’d be responsible for
There’s a difference
One hopes it’s the people who compelled you to run for office in the first place
You decided to run
But it can never be about you
It must always be about the people
All the people
And if you become President
You will be the one giving the orders
You will be the one making the decisions
You’ll have to choose what’s good for the greater whole

You can never make a decision lightly
You will always suffer a bit from each one
The responsibility of that
The gravity of that
The weight of it

Whatever you’ll think of your enemies
Whenever you’ll want to punish them
Being Commander-in-Chief is a responsibility
That cannot conflate imperiousness with power
And there is, incidentally, a point
America is more than just white men
If the deck is stacked against everyone else
You can never be the white man-in-chief
Because the entire country is what is worth saving

Mexicans, Muslims, gays, the handicapped, poor people, women, people of color
Everyone
Everyone in this country is worth saving

Your responsibility will be to drag everyone into the light
