30 years ago today, my brother, Carter Cooper, died by suicide. He was 23 years old. I miss him, and think about him every day. Can’t believe I survived some of those places, and have been doing this for 27 years. It has been the great privilege of my life to bear witness around the globe.

This photo was taken in the Ituri rainforest in #Zaire, now the Democratic Republic Of Congo. I’d been hospitalized with malaria, and was still recovering. 1985.
