In the US alone there are currently over a million people with HIV+ status and tragically 75% of those people are living at or below the poverty line making access to life-saving medication and a nutritious diet near impossible. Another constant struggle for those affected is the debilitating stigma that we as a society place on them. Let’s spread facts, not fear. HIV is not a gay disease and an HIV+ status does not make someone “dirty.” Gents, stop referring to your HIV- status as “clean” on your dating/hookup apps – the implications are damning. ANYBODY can contract the virus and the most effective way we can help prevent that is through education, getting regularly tested and knowing your status and by practicing safe sex with condoms and/or PrEP.
