Some running, some Red Hot calendar, some RuPaul’s Drag Race, and even some good old fashioned UCLA. We shall see what 2019 brings (crossing my fingers for a landscape or wildlife photo in the mix).
Made a “wrong” turn running the trails with @mikerediker in Moran State Park on Orcas Island and ended up at the top of a mountain with this absurd view of Mt. Baker (thanks for the catch @helicase1988) after running through essentially Middle Earth level mystical forests. Half expected some wood elves to pop out at me. But no, just some Black-tailed Deer getting some lunch in a pasture. Gotta come back up with something better than a phone camera. This place is awesome.

Nature is literally magic. Love when the sun is behind me and I can catch rainbows in the waterfalls. I want to go back later this year when mirror lake fills up a bit more and maybe catch the horsetail fall “firefall” effect. Finished the Arches 50 mile. That was a very very hard 8 hours of of my life but I’m stoked I held on to 8th place and didn’t quit despite hitting the wall pretty hard early on. Pulled myself out of some negative thoughts that hit between miles 15-25 as I was bonking, but I knew that would happen and I was able to mentally regroup to keep going. Each and every one of the miles was it’s own unique challenge whether it was the cold, the dark, the technical rocks, winding paths, steep hills, snow, ice in the morning that turned into afternoon mud that caked to my shoes and slipped and slid, the altitude, the blisters. Each step required focus (which tends to wane when your body is exhausted) so I was never able to just zone out like I could in a road marathon and get into a flow. When I had the rare chance to look up and enjoy the view without fear of tripping or running off course, I was treated with an alien landscape with red cliffs and scattered snow and green rock hills unlike anything I’ve ever seen. Dreamy. Saw this view on the way into the park and made sure to pull over on the side of the road as we were leaving during sunset. Arches is pretty awesome even when you aren’t looking at actual arches. #archesnationalpark
