Dia Mirza Instagram – Personally, I am a mako shark 💚
The Mako Shark is the –
· Fastest shark reaching up to 74 kilometers per hour
· They inhabit all the temperate waters of the world, with significant populations being found in the Pacific, Atlantic and Indian oceans and in the Red Sea and the Mediterranean.
· Essential for controlling the overpopulation of their prey, preventing one species from monopolizing limited resources and contributing to maintaining a complex and diverse marine ecosystem.
· They frequently get caught in fishnets and are sometimes caught by commercial fisheries for fins, oil, teeth, and the shark skin. They are also used for game fishing
· Often victims of by-catch and get accidentally captured when schools of tuna or swordfish are reeled in by large-scale fishing operations.
So, please, help me fight for healthy oceans! Saving seas just got personal. Go the link provided in my Bio and share your kindred species with me! Happy World Wildlife Day!!! Together we can and will protect our planet 🌏 💚 #WorldWildLifeDay #WWD2019 #CleanSeas #BeatPlasticPollution #WildForLife Mumbai, Maharashtra
Dia Mirza Instagram – The 3rd of March marks #WorldWildlifeDay – the biggest global annual event dedicated to our planet’s wildlife. This year’s theme for World Wildlife Day is “Life below water: for people and planet”.
I have partnered with the Wild for Life and Clean Seas campaigns, run by the United Nations Environment Programme, and I’d love to tell you a little bit about the threats our oceans and the animals within them face, and how you can help me address them:
I’m sure you’ve consciously or unconsciously been confronted with many of the issues threatening our oceans today. You may have seen news about melting ice caps and rising sea levels on TV or heard about major oil spills and overfishing threatening marine animals; or seen pictures of sea turtles choking on plastic on social media; or maybe you’ve heard about coral reefs dying globally due to the effects of climate change. All these problems and many more are pushing our oceans’ ecosystems to the brink of collapse.
Without healthy oceans, humans cannot survive. Over half the oxygen we breathe comes from the oceans. They regulate the climate and make our planet inhabitable for humans and are key in our fight against climate change. Oceans are also home to around two billion species and around three billion people are dependent on the oceans for food.
I am therefore calling on you to help me and UN Environment in our efforts to protect them. Together we can turn the tide for our oceans. #LifeBelowWater #CleanSeas #WildForLife #BeatPlasticPollution Mumbai, Maharashtra
