Eka Darville Instagram – This Man is Eddie Mabo. 27 years ago today he forced the High Court of Australia overturn a legal doctrine called ‘Terra Nullius’ or ‘land of no-one’. This law asserted that indigenous men, women and children where not actually people but part of the flora and fauna, and thus, could not own land. I’m going to say that agin: only 27 years ago, indigenous Australians were still plants and animals in the eyes of the law. That is likely within the lifetime of most of you reading this. Thanks to the life work of this man #Mabo the needle has started to inch towards reconciliation. However, the genocide of indigenous people and their culture continues today, so in memory of this King, I want you to spend a moment today to find out who’s land you’re living on and post it in the comments below.
