Kelly Klein Instagram – I remember when I was a little baby Kelly out in the world making friends. The question on every five year old’s mind was, “what’s your favorite color?”
It was a great way to figure out if you could be best friends.
Well, for me, that was a difficult question because I loved them all. At any given moment I might answer a different color. “Red…. and blue. Ummm and I really like green. And…. ummmm…. I don’t know!”
Man, did I love colors. Still do.
At certain times in my childhood, this seemed to be one of my biggest worries.
I turned to the wisdom of my mother. I told her I couldn’t pick just one and I didn’t know how to answer when the topic of favorite colors came up (and it ALWAYS did).
She told me it was ok. I didn’t have to choose just one. She said next time someone asked me my favorite color, I could answer, “all the colors of the rainbow.”
And I did!! I never forgot that lesson. But it’s not just about colors. I learned that I didn’t have to limit myself in anything. That’s why it’s always been important to me to embrace and CELEBRATE all of the things that make me ME. I can appreciate and seek femininity, but also be tough and a badass. I can be immersed in athletics and also sing in the choir. I can enjoy making my friends laugh, but also care about fostering academics and intelligence.
One of the biggest lies we ever learn is that any of those things are mutually exclusive. It takes a special kind of intelligence to be a great athlete or to craft a successful joke. It is absolutely feminine to be strong and tough and badass. All of these things make me who I am. If there is one thing that I do through my journey as a professional wrestler, I want people to hear this and understand it and believe it. Make the choices that make you happy and complete. Nourish all of the gifts that make you who you are and let you make a positive impact on the world around you.
