Kelly Klein Instagram – All my life I have tried to find my place. My role. Where I fit. Even though I know the phrases (you can do anything, be yourself), I would look around and see the reality. Reality didn’t always reflect the phrases. Do you ever tell yourself phrases and find you don’t really believe them?

I went through school trying to embrace and nurture all the parts of who I am. But my softball coaches wanted me to be a softball player. My acting teachers wanted me to be an actor. Magazines wanted me to be pretty and “feminine”. And on and on. But those are all things you DO, really. The things that make me who I am, the things that made it possible for me to be successful at any of those things are: determined, analytical, patient (and impatient), passionate, empathetic, creative, competitive, intuitive, funny, imaginative, humble, adaptable, persistent. What are you?

I discovered wrestling. Something that allowed me to BE all the things that I am to DO all the things that I love. From the moment I started, I realized I could join the many women who were breaking the stereotypes and showing a different way. The women who didn’t accept the idea that they should only present part of who they are or only do what other people thought they should. I could show young people (and as it turns out, ANY people) they didn’t have to choose. They could be everything they are to do anything they want. They can be cute and fierce. They can be smart and strong. They can be funny and empathetic. They can be pretty and creative. They didn’t have to pick just one. Is it challenging sometimes? Yes. More than once, I have started a conversation with an industry professional that went from me asking about stunt and acting work and them only seeing me as someone pretty they wanted to take on a date. Others have taken my strength and determination to mean that I don’t value beauty, or people’s choice to create and celebrate it.

I am the road to my future. I am the boss of WHO and WHAT I am. I want it all. So that’s what I work toward every day. That’s why I’m a wrestler, and a preschool teacher. Because you CAN do anything.
