Philipp Christopher Instagram – #Harlequin Studios was one of the last remaining rehearsal studios from the old days of #Broadway. It was located on 203 W46th street and it’s stairway entrance was right next to #TheGaiety, a male burlesque theater and the infamous #HowardJohnsonsRestaurant. The first time I entered Harlequin I thought I was in a #DavidLynch movie. A man with a dusty wig in front of an oversized sign-in book marked the entrance to this incredible place. These photos I took on the day it closed in 2005. Here’s a review by someone found online: They should make a movie about this place I want to preface everything I’m about to say with the following: I am not exaggerating. Harlequin Studios is where actors go to die, or possibly, after they die, if they’ve been bad, this is where hell is. This study is dirty, run down and bizarre (a reason why you have to see it once). I rehearsed a film here and had a ceiling tile fall on my head. There is bizarre orange carpeting on some of the walls. Insects. Scary woman with a tracheotomy at the front desk. Discontinued brands of candy in the vending machines. A collapsed stairway full of bird droppings.
