Chad James Buchanan Instagram – I want you to know that I see it too. I might be a white man living in 21st century America – but I see it too. I am not blind. Everyday I wake up and see the news… I see so much sadness. So much darkness in the world. Fear. Pain. Loneliness. A lack of community. A lack of love. I FEEL this too. I was lucky enough to grow up in a school system in which I had just as many black friends as I had white friends. I was lucky enough to finish off my teenage years in a place that I had just as many gay friends as I had straight friends. I never saw color. I never felt homophobia. But I see so much of this bullshit out there. It breaks my heart to see this poison, this toxicity so rampant in my own country; a country that I grew up being proud of. I can remember so many times as a kid singing along with a smile: “This land is your land and this land is my land From the California to the New York island From the Redwood Forest, to the gulf stream waters This land was made for you and me” Well, it sure as shit doesn’t feel that way anymore. But I know that it doesn’t end here. I watched Marianne Williamson’s 2020 announcement last night and she made a beautiful point: “Other generations before us have done big things. Other generations have abolished slavery. Other generations have given women’s suffrage, other generations have dismantled segregation and white supremacy in the American South. Let us not forget we are not the first generation who has had to push back against assaults on our democratic values…” We will overcome. The best is yet America.
