Michael Ealy Instagram – I’m late I know but… To be totally honest I’ve been avoiding this piece. I’ve been ducking this for weeks in fear that it would ruin my day or my week. I’ve been trying to brush it off as not neccessary. I watched the first episode and crawled in my son’s bed. As a father I couldn’t stop myself from feeling something. Feeling like I don’t wanna lose my children to the system. Feeling helpless like the 5 individuals exonerated and their families. I’ve since finished the entire series and the sitdown special with Oprah. I implore everyone to watch this piece (major s/o to @netflix.) If you haven’t already… get uncomfortable and watch it. Sometimes a project comes along and transcends the typical Hollywood Zeitgeist and gets into your soul. It leaves all the vanity at the door and forces you to confront your worst fears that just happen to be someone else’s reality. When They See Us shook me to my core because it reveals the simplicity with which one’s life can be taken away with such a false narrative that is perpetuated by the media and sadly the general public as well. #neverforget I’m awake now. The 13th was a phenomenal documentary about a broken/rigged criminal justice system. @Whentheyseeus is a truthful narrative experience that forces one to ask themselves what are they doing to reform said system. Thank you @Ava for using your platform for the catharsis that these brothers deserved. Thank you for using the visionary genius of Mr Bradford Young to lens this piece. His cinematography is simply stunning and does what good cinematography should do with every frame and that’s contribute to the storytelling and provoke the audience into a visceral reaction. There is no doubt that awards and accolades will come but nothing can match the approval of Kory, Yusef, Antron, Kevin, and Raymond. These brother’s survival is what makes this piece so precious. To be railroaded into incarceration for a crime that you had no knowledge of is beyond a nightmare. The tragedy of their lives will forever be what makes them infamous. Not anymore. Now their survival is what we must hold on to. The actor’s portrayals were beautiful. Riddled with Innocence, fear, and truth.
