This year’s goal was to take a step back from the #actorslife hustle, specifically from auditioning and headshots and auditioning and CD workshops and auditioning, to focus on telling my own stories and creating my own opportunities. Here I am today, directing @patdwyer4 in the first original audio-drama I’ve written, and in which I’m also co-starring. (Technically, here I am drinking coffee, but that’s a big part of my directing/writing/acting process). Not pictured: the other audio drama that’s half-adapted and half-recorded between myself and my Mysterious West Coast Collaborator, the third audio drama I’m hired to write and direct as of today, the trilogy of Greek tragedies outlined across my bedroom wall, the theatre job this fall I’m not allowed to talk about, #TheTableRound at @turntoflesh …oh yeah, and that #Zoey101reboot all the cool kids are talking about. (I’M NOT CONFIRMING ANYTHING, BUT HOW COOL IS IT THAT WE’RE TALKING ABOUT IT?!) What can I say except that good things happen when you take your narrative into your own hands, when you stop seeking permission to tell stories and start simply seeking stories to tell. It’s been a very, very good year, and it’s only about to get better.
