Malavika Mohanan Instagram – Having grown up in a home, in a culture, in a country so synonymous with handloom..with textiles..with cotton (which feels like second skin).. when people talk about ‘moving forward’ to sustainable, it doesn’t make sense because it doesn’t feel like a new or alien thing.. instead it feels like going back in time..to memories of childhood, of Amma.. afternoons spent rummaging through her clothes playing dress up.. of grandma recycling worn out sarees to make cute grocery bags..old dupattas which become new cushion covers..a culture where a piece of cloth is cherished as the most precious heirloom passed down from mother to daughter.. Here’s an ode to going back to the familiar. And to being aware, responsible and conscious of how every little decision we make affects this delicate ecosystem we live in.
