In the Brazilian Amazon rainforest 84% more fires were observed compared to a year ago. 74,155 fires have been counted in the year 2019 (which is not even 7 months). An emergency situation for environmental conditions has been declared in various places. The shocking news is that the increase is not due to the dry season, but because of people (!). The president wants to deforest the Amazon, causing farmers to burn the land. The fires have been going on constantly for 3 weeks now and almost none attention is being paid to it in the media.
