After receiving and listening to 65 vocal auditions, many of which were extremely professional and creative, I am happy to announce that I am casting JULIA AKS @jaksicle as the voice of our Vampire queen, Draculaana.
A bit about her: Julia is a Los Angeles-based actor / comedy director / opera singer that has appeared on Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD, is the Host of Personal Space on Amazon Prime, and has performed at LA Opera and on the latest John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum soundtrack with Tyler Bates. She also recently had a viral YouTube hit with a parody of Ariana Grande (shared by Ariana herself) of “7 Rings.” And… I just learned she filmed with Jim Carrey for Showtime’s Kidding.
But most importantly — immediately upon hearing her voice — I added the word “WOW” to her audition folder on my computer.
I had actually been seeking an older actress to play the part, but Julia’s voice and perfect “Transylvanian” dialect struck me as being The One. (With all of her opera training, working with dialect coaches, and singing in multiple languages, it was perfect.) I watched a lot of her other YouTube comedy videos, and the humor in them sincerely made me laugh. She has an understanding of awkward timing and rhythm. And bringing writing / improv / directing skills to this project is a major plus.
We got together in person at my studio for a second in-person audition, and she killed it. I gave her a stack of unexpected material to read from and improvise with (including the “Good Will Hunting” screenplay and Dianetics) and she flowed non-stop with a variety of dialects and tones. When I asked “how about some profanity?” she, without hesitation, buried my studio in an avalanche of loud, vulgar vocabulary that I could never repeat. She had the energy and intensity and bravery to try anything.
So… she has the perfect combination of elements for this role! Welcome Julia Aks!
