Annie Murphy Instagram – One of the many incredible programs offered at the Care center in Amman, is art therapy, which helps the kids talk about and process their trauma caused by war, displacement, and poverty. One of the methods they use is using shadows and grey-scale to represent the kids’ past, and after spending some time with the shadows, they begin to introduce colour and light to represent their present and future.

Diana, who is 12, knew I’d be coming to visit, and brought some of her artwork from home, which she very proudly showed me. After flipping through pages of anime, and hearts, and ice cream cones, I came across these two drawings that have been in my head for days.
