It has been 12 days, 2 hours, and 7 minutes since you took your last breath in my arms. My heart is completely broken and I am lost without you. The only solace and strength I hold onto was that you lived an amazing life and we had a hell of an amazing adventure together. From the moment I saw you as a teeny tiny 8 week old puppy at that flea market in the trunk of that horrible persons car in Milan, Italy… I took you from him and promised I would protect you and take care of you until your very last breath. I had no money and no plan… but I knew we could get through anything if we had each other. Who knew that you would be the one that ended up protecting me. Some EIGHTEEN YEARS later here you were, wise but weak after all of our adventures together… after all of our moves, career changes, life changes, relationship changes, heartbreaks, hardships, wins and losses, celebrations and successes and all the laughter and kisses and cuddles… you told me you were ready to cross the rainbow bridge. So we went to the beach, we went to your favorite river, we laid in the sun, you slept in my arms, and we ate cheeseburgers and turkey sandwiches till we burst. As I knew you would… you fought till the end… but your little body couldn’t keep up with your giant heart. Thank you for letting me be your person and for teaching me all of the things you did. You touched so many people and it feels as though a giant book of chapters and chapters of my life has closed. I promise to keep growing and learning and to keep the same promise for your furry brother and sister. They will be safe until their last breath.
