Each scene full of hidden glances and things unsaid. @celine_sciamma crafted an utterly devastating portrait of two women — a quiet, secret story that is rightfully SEEN through the soft warm lensing of female DP Claire Mathon. If you think much has changed since 18th century France I urge you to look again. Women have resigned themselves to their fates for much of history. I’m glad that this film gets to celebrate their resilience through the beauty of the female gaze. Please watch Portrait of a Lady on Fire.
