Try blinking your eyes. Yes? You did? You have been doing it for many years. Right. But it’s a task for acid attack survivors. Or even wearing earrings because some lunatic creep bought the easily sold acid and casually threw on her face. Not just her face, her entire life is disfigured. Some survive, some succumb but some fight their way, literally.
Chhapaak is another well-crafted story of more than half of the women in India who are not just fighting for their equal rights but sadly to prove themselves as human beings. It also narrates tales of many disgusting and cowardly acts of the so-called masculine men. Chhapaak is a powerful film as it is an ongoing fight to tell that they are above their bodies and appearance; that they are courageous and have choices.
@thelaxmiagarwal is one such example. What more could you ask for when @deepikapadukone plays her fictional character in a Hindi feature film directed by @meghnagulzar! I can’t explain the emotions Chhappak brought out in me. I gained a fresh perspective of life, realizing that we have we’ll ever need. The movie doesn’t stab your emotions nor expectations but it is heavy. Consider yourself a rock if you don’t clean your eyes that are freshly harbouring tears.
Little things narrated in Chhappak, like “acid is thrown on ambitious women” to “I should have ears in the first place to wear the earrings” – they throw darts at your heart as though the writers were aiming for it.
The performances and clever storytelling are the factors that make Chhappak a must-watch. More so as Deepika’s recent stunt shows that she’s a braveheart in real life as well. Meghna Gulzar you are painting stories like nobody, keep making such films, keep telling us the stories where women are winning battles and making some brave choices. No matter what ideology you have, this film won’t make you anti-national at all. Chhappak is an important film.
