Natalie Gumede Instagram – Four return 🛫trips 🛬in four months have given me one of the most important experiences in my career. I’ve loved the culture, the kindness and the inclusivity of this stunning city, and yet being here hasn’t been without its difficulties – I’ve been navigating some personal challenges at this point in my life (including healing my heart) and have at times found it a profoundly lonely place to be. I’ve spent a lot of time feeling incredibly overwhelmed. And I’ve sometimes questioned whether I’m up to performing at this level. BUT I’ve laughed much more than I’ve cried, I’ve learned from and worked with some incredible talent, and I remain humbled by the hospitality and generosity of so many people here. Biggest of all, I learned to stop acting as I think others ‘might’ want me to and to no longer hold myself back, off set and on. I have LOVED walking in Mercy Graves’ shoes. She asked a lot of me, but in return she gifted me my authenticity and strength. Of course they were with me all along, but now I dare to claim them. You may come to see that Mercy is no hero, but that’s surely a superpower 😉Toronto, it hasn’t always been easy, but boy has it been worth it!
