Shawn Morales Instagram – I have struggled with expressing my heartbreak, outrage, and pain over the murder of George Floyd. As many of you know, I relocated to Brownwood, Texas, just before COVID-19 arrived in the United States. As the country and the world went into quarantine, I sought comfort in being safe with family, seemingly far away from the despair the pandemic caused. I had a farmhouse to build and animals to feed, and I enjoyed the freedom to be outside and focus on the tasks at hand. Working on the farm helped my mental health and well-being. I recently built and opened a new brick and motor store in the town, and as I enter the real world again, I sit down to see the devastation happening worldwide. People are hurt, people are dying, and I wish I could be there with you, standing alongside my brothers, sisters, and genderqueer people of color to say ENOUGH is ENOUGH. It is time to dismantle the power structures of oppression and help those who have been victims of systemic racism and violence for hundreds of years. I am with you, I see you, I hear you, and no matter where I am, and what I am doing, I love you. Even before protests and uprisings broke out across the country, my focus shifted from social media and my website. Before I return fully, I am donating 15% of ALL ShawnMorales.com sales during the 2020 pride season to Black Lives Matters. Plus, 100% of profits from BLM and activism shirts now added. If you can’t support POC in person, whether you are keeping your family safe from the virus or you’re isolated- you can still help Americans in need by speaking out, using your voice, sharing resources, and like me, donate to charities and foundations. If you have suggestions on what else I can do, please write me- I want to help, and want to learn more on how. Be safe.
xoxo,
Shawn
