A group of the most beautiful black people in the world sang the Negro National Anthem at the top of their lungs in the middle of my backyard late at night on Juneteenth 2019. As we know, 2020 is backwards in about 800 ways, so here’s my quarantine edition in lieu of a proper celebration. Happy Juneteenth!!!!

COME WATCH A PLAY with me and Broadway legend, @rauleesparza! TOMORROW!!! JUNE 27 at 2PM and 7PM EST. . . This production is FREE and open to all. RSVP required to receive a link for the live stream. Closed captions will be displayed in French and English captions will be optional. (Link in bio). . . Below: our write up in New York Magazine (Illustration by Nahung Lé). . . Last summer, Molière in the Park (@moliereinthepark)held its inaugural season in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park—a Francophile’s answer to Manhattan’s Shakespeare in the Park series. The company was set to return this May, with “The Misanthrope,” but a certain pandemic got in the way. Instead, it mounted the play on its YouTube channel, with cast members dropping in from places as far-flung as Milwaukee and Perugia, Italy. A second production, “Tartuffe,” Molière’s comic study of hypocrisy from 1664, will be live-streamed on June 27, starring the Broadway leading man Raúl Esparza and Samira Wiley (“Orange Is the New Black”) and staged by the group’s artistic director, Lucie Tiberghien. The play is performed in Richard Wilbur’s English translation, but viewers can opt for closed captioning in French. Visit moliereinthepark.org. — Michael Schulman
