Hello all, back again today as lead intubating doctor for the hospital. This series of pictures shows how we practice donning and doffing equipment in teams, with a “spotter” who helps assist with the critical doffing process so we do not contaminate ourselves. I feel very lucky that my hospital has access to this PPE for us.
In the last 24 hours, two colleagues have told me that their calls for #ppe were labeled by strangers as fraudulent or “propaganda.” The reality could not be further from the truth. The fact that healthcare workers’ desperate calls for help from the front lines in the fight against #covid19 have been politicized or suppressed is nothing short of an outrage. Get my family the protection they need. Let’s continue our fight against anti-intellectualism and learn something new today: today’s word(s) of the day is ARDS: Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome. In plain English, it’s a type of respiratory failure with complex underlying mechanisms, but in short the lungs fill up with fluid and they cannot do their job of gas exchange in your body. You’re drowning on land. #COVID_19 can present with ARDS like findings.
