happy father’s day, dude. from the kid on the right.
@mayaerskine … here are some of my favorite pictures of you, some of which you approved, some you did not … some of which that show how i don’t look good kissing in a photo … some that show loving, funny, slightly more than distracted side of you … but hopefully, some that show just a little bit, how much i love and cherish you. happy birthday ❤️

i don’t see a point in keeping my opinion to myself… in fact, i think it’s doing more harm than good. #enoughisenough #blacklivesmatter #georgefloyd

recent watches… a lot of odd and wonderful double features. going down filmmaker wormholes -Goodfellas mixed with the first couple eps of The Sopranos. i haven’t watched Sopranos since it came out. it’s a real treat. also watched David Chase’s “Not Fade Away,” i’ve watched Goodfellas dozens of times – whenever it’s on TV i’ll stop and watch at any point – but was so fun to watch uncensored, start to finish. -The Man Who Fell to Earth. worth a watch but felt like homework. -The Party with Peter Sellers and The Anniversary Party with Alan Cummings and Jennifer Jason Leigh. watched the Anniversary Party for the first time, felt like a time capsule. rewatched The Party directly after bc of the title similarities. -Chungking Express and A Bigger Splash. continuing down my Wong Kar Wai film education path. this movie is stunning. Bigger Splash bc we wanted to be in Italy for a couple of hours. -The Adventures of Baron Munchausen and The Draughtman’s Contract. love Baron Munchausen so much and hadn’t seen in over ten years. i remember watching it for the first time thinking how much i would love to be in a Terry Gilliam movie. Draughtman’s is a little tedious at first, but was happy to be in another world for a while. -Yourself and Yours and Right Now, Wrong Then. Hang Sang Soo double feature. i hadn’t seen any movies his and can’t recommend more. Right Now, Wrong Then is on amazon, i think. i can’t stop thinking of his movies after i watch them. -Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back. we watched because we watched the excellent Empire of Dreams doc about the making of the original SW trilogy. we were gonna start with Empire, bc Maya was like the first one is a little hokey. i said, if we’re gonna do it we have to do it right. we were so happy we watched the first. it’s kind of great, in a non hokey way. Empire is another movie entirely. different director, sure. but so dark. -A Brief History of Time, Let It Be, Empire of Dreams: Making of the Star Wars Trilogy, and of course… The Last Dance. i loved all of these as i love docs. l had a very emotional reaction to The Last Dance. -All That Jazz. last but never least. thoughts/suggestions?

happy birthday Breonna Taylor. she would have been 27 years old today if she wasn’t murdered in the middle of the night by Louisville police officers for something she did not do. she was an EMT – an essential worker who worked at 2 different hospitals during Covid, and she was shot 8 times in her own bed. since i turned 27 i’ve written and directed movie, adopted a dog, become an uncle (twice), moved into my own house, lived to see what feels like the Civil Rights movement of our generation, and fell in love. i wonder what she would have done? go to my story to sign a petition demanding justice for Breonna, swipe right for numbers to call, and text ENOUGH TO 55156. #breonnataylor #sayhername #birthdayforbreonna
this is necessary viewing. i couldn’t recommend it more. thank you @ava
