Steve Carr’s collaborative nature, love of music & leadership instincts led him to the doors of Def Jam Recordings where Russell Simmons gave him a deal designing all artwork for Def Jam’s emerging roster. He partnered with friend & graffiti artist, Cey Adams, calling themselves “The Drawing Board Graphic Design Company.” A huge hit, they expanded the company, hiring young & talented designers of color who shared their worldview, taking on clients coast-to-coast and internationally. Carr has collaborated with artists such as Jay-Z, Public Enemy, LL Cool J, EPMD, Redman, Method Man & Moby, and won MTV & Billboard awards. His Sprite campaign featured Nas, Kobe Bryant & an animated “Voltron”. Ice Cube was looking for a director to take the reins on the sequel to his hit movie “Friday.” Known for his storytelling abilities and movie concepts, “Next Friday” became Steve Carr’s feature directorial debut. It was a megahit for New Line. Next, Carr’s favorite stand-up comedian of all time asked him to direct his upcoming sequel— the 20th Century Fox film, “Dr. Dolittle 2.” Carr & Eddie Murphy were the perfect match & the filml was a huge box office success. This launched a career directing hit family films including “Daddy Day Care” again with Eddie, Ice Cube’s “Are We Done Yet?”, “Paul Blart: Mall Cop” starring Kevin James, James Patterson’s “Middle School: The Worst Years of my Life,” and a musical version of Disney’s “Freaky Friday.” In between developing & directing family fare, Carr directs adult sitcoms and short-form projects; he produces indie films for other directors, and has a slate of R-rated comedies in development at various studios & streaming networks.
