Woooo!!! First things first: all these little guys (and more!) are available over on the patreon! This is literally the hardest thing I’ve ever tried to figure out, but gosh darn I did and it feels good. I’ve been photoscanning my friends for the past few months, and finally have them rigged up so they work easily with mocap, which means finally I can have fairly realistic backgrounds characters living in my blender scenes. Mixing and matching lots of techniques for this shot! Huge thanks to @nathan.h.taylor for setting up a bunch of photoscanned vignettes with me :D. I love being able to build a set knowing that we’ll be able to copy-and-paste the assets (or rotate/flip/scale) once we’ve digitized them; it’s a weird way to work. Also in that, while the whole set is digital, we still made a bunch of it practically?? I’ve been working on jellyfish for the past couple days, and I’m really glad with how they turned out (tried a lot over the years, always with horrifying results)! All the animation is just a single wave modifier; it works kinda eerily well! Also designed a little jellyfish shop for the Waterworks Market scene. Turned out very similar to how I pictured it in my head (sort of a “back of the pet store” vibe), which is always fun. Testing out some rock photoscans from a hike with Kaitlin yesterday! I like having an assembly file in play when I’m cleaning photoscans, so I can drop them straight into a scene and see how well they work with lighting and all that- this was that scene (added the ladder cause- I dunno. It was easier than a dirigible or something.) Kind of crazy to realize everything in it was scanned (apart from the water and ladder); I’m really enjoying it. Working on some environments for the HyperBole! The Sport of Tomorrow, the Thin Skulls of Today. Designing a bunch of custom screens for a shot that’s only going to be visible on a TV in the background of a different scene. The crowd (not particularly visible) is a photo scan from last night with @kaitlinlafrustrada @makeronthemove and I, utilizing the Mavic’s auto orbit feature as a means to film a photoscan.
