Gender based inequality is a major cause & effect of hunger, poverty & suffering. Around the world, girls are often kept home from school while boys are educated. Women make up more than two-thirds of the world’s 796 million illiterate people. Child marriage is a common practice in many places in the world.
I have the honor to know & support my dear sister @_nasreensheikh & the wonderful women working with her at the @empowerment_collective in Nepal.

Nepal makes the list of the top 10 countries with the highest rates of child marriage. Child marriages often lead to women having children at very young ages and health problems.
The scale, severity and complexity of associated human rights violations committed against women in Nepal is overwhelming. It is home to some of the highest levels of domestic abuse in the world.
The @LocalWomensHandicrafts was started by Nasreen Sheikh, at the age of 16, as a small shop in Kathmandu, Nepal. As a young girl Nasreen had already survived two years as a child laborer in a sweat shop & escaped a forced marriage. LWH are taking one women at a time and making them independent, teaching them to know their value and take control of their destinies.
