This is a never-before-seen-trailer-selfie on my first day of THE 100 as Raven Reyes.
Note the hella old iPhone, awkward crab hand and baby me trying desperately to “look”, “feel” and “be” Raven Reyes Tough.
I look at this photo and see a girl who is nervous as all hell…terrified, excited…and full of something to prove.
She didn’t have the best experience on her last job & was doubting herself, doubting her abilities, doubting her path.
But I also see a girl who is full vigor, full of TRY & full of her dreams & that small voice inside of her who’ll never let her quit.

Raven Reyes,
You always brought out the best parts of me. The strength in me; the intellect, the resourcefulness, the resilience. The sass.
I didn’t know how strong I was until I had to find out how strong you are.
Over the past seven years, it was a privilege to learn you as I began to learn myself…as an artist, as a woman and as the person I aspire to be in this world.
You taught me things I never thought I’d learn in my 20’s; how to change my oil, how to weld, splice wires and eradicate brain eating A.I.s.
You taught me immeasurable pain…physically, mentally, emotionally.
Taught me the true cost of loss & the extent humanity & myself will go to survive. You tested me, humbled me & broke me.
Yet, like a phoenix (or perhaps a Raven) you always rose from the ashes; renewed, evolved, ready to rebuild.
You never quit.
You never quit & because of that I never did.
Thank you for teaching me there’s always a way, that I’m always smarter & stronger than I think, there’s always light in the darkness & there’s always love…even at the end of the world. There is always love.
That I deserve love, deserve second chances, deserve happiness & deserve the family of my choice.
Thank you for teaching me that my battle scars don’t define me, but instead brilliantly decorate my ever-evolving, ever-learning and ever-experiencing human soul.
Your grace and grit transcended myself, & I’m better because of that …& because of you.
Thank you Raven Reyes.
