North America. So much of our culture either IS black culture or stems from it.⁣
⁣
Just look at music. Pretty much everything we like can be traced back to Black American traditions like blues, ragtime, rock and roll, and jazz.⁣
⁣
Even something as simple and ubiquitous as having the snare/clap on the 2s and 4s can be traced back to these traditions. And that alone covers probably more than 90% of the songs you listen to.⁣

And when it’s not the 2 and the 4, it’s usually the distinctly Afro-Cuban Tresillo/Dembow rhythm (think Despacito or One Dance).⁣
⁣
And that’s just one element, of one field.⁣
⁣
I’m obviously barely scratching the surface. The point is, it runs deep. We love black culture. We consume it, we’re inspired by it, we adapt it, we pull from it… And I think that can be beautiful (when done respectfully). I mean, that’s what culture is.⁣
⁣
But we can’t just share in the beauty without sharing in the pain.⁣
⁣
If we’re together then we gotta be together.⁣
⁣
We need to take action. Make donations. Have conversations. Seek out knowledge. Read books. Watch documentaries. Knowledge is power.⁣

The more you understand, the more you see. The more you see, the more you can do.⁣
⁣
You won’t buy the lies if you know the truth.⁣
⁣
