Michelle Grondine Instagram – aloha book nerds and friends!! my family dog grace kelly passed away last week a couple days after the 9th anniv of my father’s passing so i’ve just been hermiting with books and anime and making content to help with the sadness. here are some of my favorite 🏳️‍🌈 reads that bring me the most joy: i devoured heartstopper vol 1-3 by @aliceoseman like i was starved for oxygen after a 100m dash. mooncakes by @wendyxu & @suzisaur made my heart sing with magic. loveless by @aliceoseman was recc’d to me by my fav @jennaclarek (ok she recc’d alice’s entire bibliography as a whole tbch—she’s never steered me wrong) and all humans must read it. and omg cemetery boys by @aidenschmaiden—i just💖💖💖 i’m in the midst of it rn and never want it to end 🥺✨ mooncakes, cemetery boys, and heartstopper all have trans rep (cemetery boys is the first trans ownvoices ya novel to debut on the nyt best seller list!); mooncakes has wlw pan rep; cemetery boys has mlm, latinx, vegan bruja (hehehe😁) rep; heartstopper has queer bi rep; loveless has ace/aro rep. i also really appreciated the way heartstopper also represented those of us who have struggled with eating disorders when this storyline began, and the inclusion of content alerts in the text itself. these stunning ownvoices works are such a beautiful celebration of lgbtqia voices and stories that the world desperately needs more of. each beautifully written, brilliantly weaved, and heartstoppingly engaging—a 10/10 way to spend your day.
