I’ve been making electronic music under the moniker Ginormous since 2004, putting out four albums, a remix compilation, and various tracks on comps — but it’s been a loooong time since I released anything other than a single. I promised myself the next time I did it would be on my own label, so here we finally are…
This project came to be as a score for an excerpt of my spouse Lisa’s incredible solo dance piece The Impermanent Sky, which incorporated the fading twilight into a mesmerizing and haunting performance. Track 2 was my original submission, and Track 1 is the final score that Lisa directed me to compose. We had been supporting each other’s work for many years, but this was our first big collaboration and it meant the world to me.
A few years later, I liked how these two very different pieces complimented each other and how, back to back, they created their own sonic journey through an imagined complete rotation of the Earth — using Buckminster Fuller’s more scientifically accurate renaming of sunrise and sunset — from sunsight to sunclipse, and back around to sunsight.
