There isn’t much I can add to the national conversation that hasn’t already been said by people who look and love like me for generations. Anyone reading this is well aware racism has left Black Lives depleted— physically, emotionally, and economically. Some people fail to correlate our tragic reality to slavery, but the insidious origins of this country ignited a fire we are only beginning to douse. It hurts my heart to see us in such perpetual pain because, despite all odds, I am so proud to be black. Our history of hardship has made us the most resilient, beautiful people in the world. In many ways, we are living our ancestors’ wildest dreams. Sending buckets and canyons and oceans of love to my community… and huge gratitude to those of you standing among us, speaking out against this inequity. Truth be told, this has always been your revolution to provoke. Keep posting. Keep protesting. Keep calling. Keep donating. Keep learning. Keep on keeping on. —nic

This story of blackness + queerness uplifted a history of Negro spirituals, and how the messages in those songs offer us solace today. This play did many things that have never been done on Broadway, and we are grateful for the recognition of that. Our Tony Award nominations (and wins!) on Sunday were cherries on top of an incredible experience. Radio City Music Hall
