Holland Taylor Instagram – My father, C. Tracy Taylor. Philadelphia born and bred, a page torn from O’Hara, and a Philadelphia lawyer most certainly. He typically read Mencken and Thorstein Veblen and re-read all of Dickens in his last years.
I remember him with pleasure for his wonderful wit, but always with sorrow too, as his interior life was so painful at times. Drink helped that, but ruined everything else. He sure had style, though- and, with my mother, a fabulous sense of humor.

Holland Taylor Instagram – I speak often of my great teacher, Stella Adler, how her technique guides me, indeed, inspires me still. Mark Ruffalo studied with her (De Niro was her student, as was Marlon Brando, who said she was the greatest teacher of acting). The Stella Adler Academy in Los Angeles teaches her technique– all the Academy’s principal teachers studied directly with Stella and have her course manuals. Of course, all schools across the country are struggling in the pandemic, and while the Academy is functioning virtually, survival is very challenging. @markruffalo has stepped up and is putting on a live virtual table read of a NEW Kenneth Lonergan play today as a benefit to help the @stellaadleracademy make it to the other side. Stella Adler’s teachings have been thriving in LA since the late 70’s when Stella began dividing her time between NY and LA. Students for more than 60 years have been nourished and guided by the Stella Adler philosophy, her practical and detailed approach to acting, the use of the imagination, and her celebrated methods of script analysis. I have (and read!) my own Stella notes from forty years ago! This benefit reading, today at 7pm eastern time, would be a privilege to attend- and how great to enjoy it and support Stella’s long line of teaching at the same time.
