Jeff Bezos Instagram – “The thing I remember most is the view of the planet Earth from a great distance. Tiny, very shiny, blue and white, bright beautiful, serene and fragile.”

Michael Collins was a trailblazer, and what a life he led. Forever grateful for your contributions, Mike. Godspeed.
Jeff Bezos Instagram – On this #EarthDay we should focus not only on the dangerous threats to climate and nature but also on the exciting opportunities we face in solving them. The coming decade will need to see radical changes in the way we power our activities, grow our food, construct our buildings, manufacture our products, manage our land, and transport our goods. These transitions are possible and affordable, and they will lead to more jobs, healthier citizens, and more fairness and justice. They will need bold actions from companies, governments, and citizens.

As part of Amazon’s contribution, today I’m excited to share that we are joining a $1 billion global effort with the governments of the U.S., UK, and Norway, and other companies to help preserve tropical forests. Amazon also announced this week that 52 new companies – including Alaska Airlines, Colgate-Palmolive, HEINEKEN, PepsiCo, Telefónica, Visa – joined The #ClimatePledge, which Amazon co-founded in 2019 to encourage companies to achieve net-zero carbon, 10 years ahead of the Paris Agreement. As part of Amazon’s own work to reach net-zero carbon, we are now the largest corporate buyer of renewable energy in the world with 206 renewable energy projects — 9 new projects announced just this week. All in, Amazon now has 71 utility-scale wind and solar projects, and 135 solar rooftops on facilities and stores.

It is also encouraging to see leadership from governments with President Biden’s meeting of world leaders to commit to more action on climate. This includes a new ambitious U.S. emissions target for 2030. We must all be part of achieving it.

The first Earth Day in 1970 led to landmark changes in environmental progress. Half a century later, we need nothing less.
