Anne Hathaway Instagram – Yesterday, @harpersbazaarus and Julie Ae Kim shared these powerful words regarding the hateful attacks against the Asian American community in Atlanta. I encourage you all to read @jakets full piece at the link in my bio: “Yesterday, eight people were killed and several others were injured in a series of shootings at three Atlanta-area massage parlors. According to the ‘New York Times,’ six of the eight people were Asian, and seven were women. In response to these continued hate crimes against the Asian American community, we’re revisiting a piece by feminist writer and organizer Julie Ae Kim where she looks to histories of political solidarity for answers. “White supremacy exploits the fear of “the other” by raising up narratives that stoke resentment, that highlight Black and Asian conflict but never the history of solidarity that has existed and flourished,” writes Kim. “I had to learn that being an ally isn’t about silencing one’s own pain or grief, it is the recognition that our liberation is bound together. We must be able to show up as our full selves and speak out on our pain.” #StopAsianHate.
