Justin Theroux Instagram – A poem my Mom wrote when i was little… happy Mother’s Day mom. ❤️ The One Thing “Love means to look at yourself The way one looks at distant things, For you are only one thing among many And whoever sees that way heals his heart.” Czeslaw Milosz I know what he means, But try it sometime with your child Who lies like the pip in a clove of garlic In the center of your being, Whose small, mittened hand Chops the snow on the hedge as he Sings a nonsense song in the early morning And when you gaze down at him From the upstairs bedroom window Your heart is stabbed with tenderness. It takes a lifetime To close that kind of wound, To look at that boy as only One thing among many. Perhaps the poet forgot to say that Children are an exception, And dogs, Or anything that reminds us of The one thing We didn’t know about Until we knew you. Phyllis Theroux
