The mind oversimplifies and ignores the grey area. Good or bad. Either or. Black or white. Right or wrong. Privileged or oppressed. Woke or problematic. You either unquestionably support something or you’re an apathetic monster…and all the rest. Listen, I understand that binary thinking can be useful in some instances and as human beings we are naturally pulled in that direction, but I don’t see it being helpful to have it be the default in ALL situations…. especially in the climate we find ourselves in today…where the majority of the public have (or at least feel like they’ve) lost the fucking plot. We are far more complicated and diverse (in the truest sense) than most people would have you believe, which I why I personally struggle to buy into the crap being pedalled as absolute truth. A lot of people, including myself, cannot check these limiting boxes set up by nameless faceless people. It’s not that simple! Am I left or right? I’m neither. Never have been. Never will be. Case by case, context matters. These boxes are not liberating for most of us and we should be willing to at least have the CONVERSATION, without a binary-based script being whipped out as a way of shutting it down before it’s even started. I touched on this in my recent LIVE which is in my IGTV archive ‘How to avoid being so progressive you become regressive’ LOL, but my question is… HOW DOES IT MAKE SENSE to fight for the removal of unhelpful binaries (rightfully so), whilst creating new ones in the process?
