What is juneteenth?
Today we honor Black freedom, we honor Black Independence Day in the United States. On June 19, 1865 the news of the abolition of slavery reached the most remote region of the Confederacy of Texas. After two and a half years of the Emancipation Proclamation being signed Black kin were “free.”

165 years later we are still waiting for:
our 40 acres & a mule
-less than 1 percent of Black people are landowners
for our freedom
-Black folx are five times more likely to be stopped without just cause than a white person
-Black folx make up 34% of the prison population [smaller text]
Fatal police violence is the 6th leading cause of death for Black men ages 25 to 29
