John Lithgow Instagram – Friends and readers! I’m excited to announce that I’ve written and illustrated another book of satirical poetry, coming out soon! This one is called A Confederacy of Dumptys: Portraits of American Scoundrels in Verse. In it, I’m saying goodbye and good riddance to our most recent ex-president, and instead doing a deep dive into his precursors in American history—over 30 scoundrels who were corrupt, criminal, adulterous, racist, or just plain stupid. It’s a book that begs the question: You thought HE was bad? It tells about the first Grand Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan, our boldest female con artist, and our most outrageous quack doctor. Richard Nixon is there, but also Leona Helmsley, Boss Tweed, Typhoid Mary, Newt Gingrich, Ted Cruz, the Watergate gang, and the insurrectionists of January 6th. It’s a rhyming, serio-comic romp through our national story and an exuberant reminder of how NOT to repeat history. Link in bio.
