Kosuke Asuma Instagram – It was when I was a freshman in high school.
After club activities, I bought Weekly Shonen Jump at a convenience store as usual.
When I was about to read One Piece, I noticed big letters “‘Haikyu!!’ A new serial manga”.
Since I was in a volleyball club, I jumped on it before reading One Piece, my favorite manga.
After reading it, I became a fan of Hiakyu, and I got more excited to buy Jump.
I imitated my favorite scenes, I tried serving a jump serve as Oikawa does.
Above all, I became motivated to win games.
Since I was in a weak team, I had worried too much about eyes of those around me, jumping to a conclusion that playing hard or losing a game was lame although concerning about such a thing was the most uncool thing. lol
After noticing that, I came to like volleyball more and more.
“I will make the team stronger.”
After seniors retired the club, I became a captain.
We came to win games little by little and got to take part in a Tokai tournament.
(Tokai is one of regions in Japan. Gifu, my hometown, is in Tokai region.)
Thanks to Haikyu, I was able to change.
After graduating from high school, I came to Tokyo and started to work in show business.
Although I took auditions for many times, I repeatedly failed them.
In most times, I was depressed.
That was the time when I came across Engeki “Haikyu!!”.
I consulted with my manager and participated in the audition.
I made a firm decision.
“I will give up working in show business if I fail this audition.”
I still remember the moment when I got the part of Toru Oikawa.
I feel like it was just yesterday.
Before the announcement, I wasn’t sure where I can reach after trying hard.
I didn’t know who I can become.
Although I had made desperate efforts (or at least I thought I tried hard), I didn’t get results, confidence or guarantee to succeed.
There was nothing.
When I was about to give up my dreams, Engeki “Haikyu!!” gave me a chance.
Haikyu!! changed me again.
It changed my life.
I was extremely happy.
