NEARLY 50°C!! This is HOTTER than the highest temperature ever recorded in Las Vegas and is more typical of summer in the Middle East. The unprecedented #heatwave is having multiple major impacts: heat stress in people, animals and vegetation; #air quality (pollutants due to hot stable air); #wildfire risk; possibility of #landslides caused by #glacier melt in mountains; disruption to infrastructure and transport systems not prepared for such high temperatures. Heatwaves are becoming more frequent and intense as greenhouse gas concentrations lead to a rise in global temperatures. They are starting earlier and ending later.
